DRC Congratulates Skiermont Derby LLP and Bayard PA for $242 Million Jury Verdict Against Microsoft in Delaware Patent Infringement Trial

DRC congratulates its clients Paul J. Skiermont, Jaime K. Olin, Steven W. Hartsell, Sarah E. Spires, Alexander E. Gasser, Kevin P. Potere, Todd A. Martin and Mieke K. Malmberg of Skiermont Derby LLP and Stephen B. Brauerman of Bayard PA for their $242 million jury verdict against Microsoft, on behalf of their client IPA Technologies, in IPA Technologies v. Microsoft, Inc., 18-cv-00001 (D. Del.).

IPA sued Microsoft for infringing on patents IPA owned and used in Apple’s Siri technology. IPA sought to force Microsoft to pay a reasonable royalty for its use of the patented technology in Microsoft’s Cortana virtual assistant.
The 1-week trial ended with the jury returning a verdict last Friday afternoon, shortly after closing arguments. DRC’s Director of Jury Research, Faye Honig, and Managing Director, Renato Stabile, assisted the trial team with jury selection in the District of Delaware.
